Proclamation declaring March 2020 to be National Kidney Month in Allegheny County

WHEREAS, there are an estimated 37 million Americans with kidney disease, and 33% of American adults are at risk; and
WHEREAS, it is critical that attention be brought to this often overlooked, but increasingly common disease; and
WHEREAS, the major risk factors associated with the 9th leading cause of death in the United States are diabetes, high blood pressure, a family history of kidney failure and over the age of 60; and
WHEREAS, the month of March is National Kidney Month and March 12th, 2020, is World Kidney Day; and
WHEREAS, the National Kidney Foundation - the leading patient centric organization in the United States dedicated to the awareness, prevention and treatment of kidney disease - is calling on all Americans to take care of their kidneys and their overall health;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Allegheny County Council Member Cindy Kirk, do hereby declare the March to be National Kidney Month in Allegheny County, and I recognize the National Kidney Foundation for its continued efforts to fight this epidemic to build a brighter future for the families of Allegheny County.
