Proclamation recognizing the 25th Anniversary of Empty Bowls.

WHEREAS, it is estimated that over 168,000 individuals in Allegheny County are food insecure; and
WHEREAS, for the 25th consecutive year, Empty Bowls dinner will serve up a simple community meal of soup and bread to remind people of the one in eight residents of Allegheny County who are facing hunger with “empty bowls”; and
WHEREAS, on Sunday, March 15, 2020, the annual Empty Bowls dinner will take place at Rodef Shalom in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, this year, Just Harvest and Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank will co-host the event and all funds raised will benefit both organizations equally; and
WHEREAS, every year, Empty Bowls draws more than 1,500 people and has raised more than $500,000 to fight hunger throughout Allegheny County;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, Allegheny County Council Members Bob Macey, Olivia Bennet, Tom Baker, Tom Duerr, Sam DeMarco, Nick Futules, Bethany Hallam, Cindy Kirk, Paul Klein, and Anita Prizio, do hereby recognize the 25th Anniversary of Empty Bowls, and we thank them for their continued dedication to combating food insecurity across Allegheny County.
