Proclamation honoring Mrs. Margaret Ree Watson upon her 100th birthday.

WHEREAS, on July 6, 1920 in Birmingham, Alabama, Margaret Ree Watson was born to Maggie Baron-Campbell and Alex Campbell; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Watson attended Pratt City School in Birmingham, AL. where she would leave school early to go to work and care for white families and their children; and
WHEREAS, at the age of 19 years old, Mrs. Watson, along with her sister and brother-in-law, moved to the Hill District in the City of Pittsburgh. Shortly after arriving in Pittsburgh, Mrs. Watson met and married, Johnny Watson and together they had three children, Barbara Wooster, Joyce Fowler, and Richard Watson (deceased); and
WHEREAS, for several years, Mrs. Watson worked as a waitress/cook at Teddy Horne’s Restaurant until the mid-1950’s when the Lower Hill was slated for redevelopment; and
WHEREAS, for 28 years, Mrs. Watson was employed as a housekeeper at West Penn Hospital, along with her sister, Bernice until her retirement in 1985. After retiring, Mrs. Watson volunteered as a companion to seniors in the community until their passing; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Watson is a lifelong Baptist and an active member of Nazareth Baptist Church, where she is a member of the Ladies Usher Board Emeritus;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Allegheny County Council Member DeWitt Walton, do hereby honor and recognize Mrs. Margaret Ree Watson for her longevity, and we wish her the best as she celebrates her 100th birthday.
