Proclamation honoring Carl Irwin Thomas, Sr. upon his 90th birthday.

WHEREAS, Carl Irwin Thomas, Sr. was born on July 24, 1930 in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, from 1952 until 1954, Carl actively served in the U.S. Army and remained in the Reserve until 1960; and
WHEREAS, in 1951, Carl met and married his wife of 69 years, Barbara Gruber. Together they had four children, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, starting at the age of 16, Carl began working for U.S. Steel and retired from Homestead Works in 1985; and
WHEREAS, in his spare time, Carl enjoys fishing and hunting across the United States. He loves to plant flowers and tend to his garden, and he has received many accolades for his pristine gardening skills; and
WHEREAS, Carl is an active member of Homeville Christian Church and served as deacon there for many years. He continues to plant flowers every year at the church and participates in the church’s live nativity every Christmas;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Allegheny County Council Vice President Bob Macey, do hereby honor Carl Irwin Thomas, Sr. for his longevity, and we wish him all the best as he celebrates her 90th birthday.
