Proclamation congratulating Darcy Joan Urbank and Paul Johannes Battisti upon their 50th wedding anniversary.

WHEREAS, “In life it’s not where you go - it’s who you travel with.” This quote from Charles Schultz, creator of the comic strip Peanuts, embodies Darcy Joan Urbank and Paul Johannes Battisti’s 50 years of marriage; and
WHEREAS, Darcy and Paul met while attending West Virginia University and were married by a Justice of the Peace on August 15, 1970; and
WHEREAS, shortly after being married, Darcy and Paul served our country by joining the Peace Corps. The couple was stationed in Guatemala, a Central American country for two years where they worked with different communities on various projects, such as health and youth development; and
WHEREAS, after returning to the United States, the couple lived in Rapid City, South Dakota for several years, and their son, Jubal Battisti was born there; and
WHEREAS, thanks to a job opportunity, Darcy and Paul moved to Washington, D.C. where Darcy got a job with the Labor Department and Paul obtained a job with the Veterans Administration; and
WHEREAS, after leaving D.C., the couple moved to the Municipality of Bethel Park and eventually the Township of Upper Saint Clair. Darcy became a NICU nurse at Children’s Hospital and Paul got a job with the Veterans Administration in Pittsburgh. Today, the couple live in the Township of Mt. Lebanon where they have the best view of Washington Avenue; and
WHEREAS, together they have shown extreme devotion and compassion towards their family by nurturing their son’s passion for pursuing a career in dance, and providing care for three of their parents until the end of their lives; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Allegheny County Council Member Bethany Hallam, do hereby recognize and congratulate Darcy Joan Urbank and Paul Johannes Battisti upon their 50th wedding anniversary. They are a shining example of how t...
