Proclamation recognizing the 35th Anniversary of the Steel Valley Authority.

WHEREAS, commissioned by six Pennsylvania governors and national investment leaders, the Steel Valley Authority (SVA) was established in 1985 in response to the loss of manufacturing jobs in Glassport, Homestead, Rankin, McKeesport, Pittsburgh, East Pittsburgh, Munhall, Swissvale, Turtle Creek, West Homestead, Duquesne, and Clairton; and
WHEREAS, this year, the SVA is celebrating its 35th anniversary of driving economic policy and innovative programs to effectively save and create manufacturing jobs across the United States; and
WHEREAS, the SVA supports workers and their families, small manufacturers, and communities through several programs including: The Strategic Early Warning Network (SEWN) program, Layoff Aversion Training & Technical Expertise (LATTE) program, and Heartland Capital Strategies (HCS); and
WHEREAS, the organization has expanded to five offices across Pennsylvania that contribute to stable communities and renewed prosperity through layoff aversion, responsible capital investment policy and building sustainable communities. Over the years, the SVA’s efforts have contributed to saving nearly 30,000 productive economy jobs across the United States; and
WHEREAS, with headquarters in Swissvale, Pennsylvania, the SVA is nationally acclaimed as a leading regional jobs authority for more than three decades; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that I, Allegheny County Council Member DeWitt Walton do hereby recognize the 35th Anniversary of the Steel Valley Authority, and we commend the organization for their dedication to developing strategic investment and economic strategies in Pennsylvania and across the nation.
