WHEREAS, Amachi Pittsburgh is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to empowering young minds to overcome the challenges of parental incarceration and to reach their full potential through one-on-one mentoring, family strengthening and reunification support, and leadership development and youth organizing; and
WHEREAS, as the only organization in Allegheny County with a distinct focus on helping children affected by parental incarceration, Amachi Pittsburgh has been on a mission since 2003 to inspire the youth; and
WHEREAS, since 2003, Amachi Pittsburgh has utilized an evidence-based Amachi program model that strategically provide encouragement, guidance, and support to vulnerable children, ages 4-18, and their families, both during and after incarceration; and
WHEREAS, nationally recognized and award winning, Amachi Pittsburgh provides the following services: One-On-One Mentoring, Family Strengthening and Reunification Support, and Amachi Ambassadors Youth Leadership Development; and
WHEREAS, on October 8, 2020, Amachi Pittsburgh will host the first Let’s Glow Event in Pittsburgh. This is a virtual and safely-distanced in-person pop-up event to promote Amachi Pittsburgh’s mission;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Allegheny County Council Member Tom Baker, do hereby recognize Amachi Pittsburgh, and thank them for their commitment and determination to empower young minds to overcome challenges of parental incarceration.
