WHEREAS, founded in 1910, the Boy Scouts of America is one of the largest scouting organizations and youth organizations in the United States, with more than 2.4 million youth participants. The Boy Scouts of America goal is to train youth in responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance through participation in a wide range of outdoor activities, educational programs, and, at older age levels, career-oriented programs in partnership with community organizations; and
WHEREAS, Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program. After a lengthy review process, only four percent of Boy Scouts are granted the Eagle Scout rank, which requires earning at least 21 merit badges. The Eagle Scout must demonstrate Scout spirit, an ideal attitude based upon the Scout Oath, Law and Mission, service, and leadership. This includes an extensive service project that the Scout plans, organizes, leads, and manages; and
WHEREAS, Stephen Wade Snyder, a member of Boy Scout Troop 181 of the North Hills, has recently met all necessary requirements to advance to the rank of Eagle Scout; and
WHEREAS, Stephen organized and led a project for the Northland Public Library in the Town of McCandless. The project consisted of constructing and installing a bench and seating area at the library for the community to enjoy; and
WHEREAS, Stephen is currently a senior at North Hills High School and aspires to have a career in computer software development and gaming; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Allegheny Council Member Bethany Hallam, do hereby commend and recognize Stephen Wade Snyder upon receiving the Eagle Scout Award, and we congratulate him for dedicating time, leadership, creativity and effort to making his community better.
