Proclamation recognizing Levin Furniture and Mattress as it celebrates 100 years of providing superior quality furniture and services to all its customers.

WHEREAS, in 1920, Sam Levin and his wife, Jessie opened the first Levin Furniture and Mattress in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, at first, their store sold an array of items ranging from hardware, furniture, window screens, and three-piece suites; and
WHEREAS, in 1943, Leonard Levin, Sam and Jessie Levin’s only son became owner of the store. Under his leadership, a major expansion occurred that put the family-owned company on the map; and
WHEREAS, Leonard’s son, Howard Levin entered the family business in 1978. Under Howard’s leadership, Levin’s opened five full-service stores across Allegheny County. In 1989, upon Leonard’s passing, Howard was named President and continued to expand Levin’s for years to come. In 1992, Howard opened three Levin’s stores in Ohio; and
WHEREAS, after Howard’s untimely death, Robert Levin, Howard's younger brother, took over the duties and demands of the nine furniture stores and eventually growing Levin's to the 18 stores it is today. As current president of Levin’s, Robert continues his brother's dream and traditions of his grandfather, father, and mother by maintaining the family tradition of service, quality, and competitive pricing for our customers; and
WHEREAS, upon his retirement in 2017, Robert Levin sold the company to Art Van Furniture; and
WHEREAS, sadly, like many businesses affected by the coronavirus pandemic, Levin’s filed for bankruptcy. In a quest to save his family’s business, Robert Levin successfully negotiated a deal in bankruptcy court to buy back the Levin brand. Robert Levin plans to rebuild the family furniture empire his grandfather Sam Levin founded in Mt. Pleasant in 1920, with an emphasis on restoring its reputation for customer service;
