Proclamation recognizing the 50th anniversary of AAUW North Hills Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, AAUW has been empowering women as individuals and as a community since 1881. Over the years, the organization has worked together as a national grassroots organization to improve the lives of millions of women and their families; and
WHEREAS, in 1970, AAUW North Hills Pittsburgh was founded by a group of local women who wanted to continue their intellectual growth and further the advancement of women and girls within the community; and
WHEREAS, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, AAUW North Hills Pittsburgh is dedicated to activities supporting education, legislation, international relations, cultural events and the community; and
WHEREAS, AAUW North Hills Pittsburgh partners with various organizations in McCandless to conducting the following: Salvation Army’s holiday bell ringing; North Hills food bank; International Day of Peace celebration at North Park; La Roche University STEM events; and Support of the Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Breakfast; and
WHEREAS, over the years, AAUW North Hills Pittsburgh has sponsored a variety of public programs with guest speakers to help educate and empower the community; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Allegheny County Council Member Tom Baker, do hereby congratulate and join in celebration with AAUW North Hills Pittsburgh as it celebrates 50 years of helping grow and further advance the community.
