Proclamation congratulating Paula Willis, Parks and Recreation Director for South Fayette Township for being a member of the inaugural class of the Parks & Recreation “30 Under 30”.

WHEREAS, the National Recreation and Park Association’s (NRPA) Young Professional Network (YPN) and the Parks and Recreation magazine launched their first “30 Under 30”; and
WHEREAS, the “30 Under 30” program recognizes 30 of the top young park and recreational professionals who have made an impact in their communities; and
WHEREAS, Paula Willis, Parks and Recreation Director for South Fayette Township was recognized as a “30 Under 30” for her hard work and dedication to South Fayette Township’s parks and recreation; and
WHEREAS, Paula was chosen out of more than 100 candidates, forming a diverse group of nominees from 29 different states, one Canadian province and one U.S. Navy aircraft carrier; and
WHEREAS, as South Fayette Township’s first female Parks and Recreation director, Paula has innovatively created and expanded recreational opportunities, as well as advanced and established park amenities throughout the community; and
WHEREAS, as a one-person department with limited resources, Paula developed creative approaches to position recreation programs and parks as essential public services; and
WHEREAS, over the years, Paula has expended the number of programs offered annually by the department from 42 in 2016 to 88 in 2017. She has also increased program revenue from $22,412 in 2015 to $71,342 in 2019;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Allegheny County Council President Patrick Catena, do hereby congratulate Paula Willis for being a member of the inaugural class of the Parks & Recreation “30 Under 30”. I thank her for her continued dedication to South Park Township as the director of the Parks and Recreation.
