Proclamation recognizing Mike Heiry, head custodian at North Allegheny Intermediate High School, for being named the 2021 Cintas Custodian of the Year.

WHEREAS, The Cintas Custodian of the Year contest celebrates custodians who work hard every day to provide a sparkling learning environment for students and staff; and
WHEREAS, North Allegheny Intermediate High School has maintained a clean building, even during the COVID-19 pandemic, thanks to constant sanitizing, air filter changing and room re-arranging; and
WHEREAS, Mike Heiry, head custodian at North Allegheny Intermediate High School, was recognized as the Cintas Custodian of the Year by earning 20% of the contest’s over 70,000 total votes cast for the 10 national finalists; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Heiry, who only began working in the school district 4 and one-half years ago, has truly become an integral part of the school and the district that he considers his extended family. In fact, he was overwhelmed by all of the support he received from staff, faculty, board, and most of all, the students; and
WHEREAS, to celebrate this wonderful achievement, during a live-streamed assembly, Mr. Heiry was greeted by students, faculty, staff and many other guests who waved banners and cheered wildly for his victory. The assembly also featured the marching band drumline and posters created by student organizations; and
WHEREAS, as the winning custodian, Mr. Heiry received a cash prize of $10,000 and an additional $5,000 in Rubbermaid Commercial Products and Cintas products for his school. North Allegheny Intermediate High School will also receive a comprehensive training and development package from ISSA valued at $20,000 and enrollment in the GBAC Fundamentals Online Course, provided by the Global Biorisk Advisory Council, a Division of ISSA; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Allegheny Council Member Cindy Kirk, do hereby commend and recognize Mike Heiry as the 2021 Cintas Custodian of the Year, and we thank him for his continued dedication to providing a clean and safe learning environment for the students, faculty and staff of North Allegheny Intermediate High School.
