Proclamation congratulating Mr. Joseph Gordon for being named a 2021 Lung Health Champion.

WHEREAS, Breathe Pennsylvania, headquartered in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania is a non-profit organization that helps the residents of southwestern Pennsylvania achieve and maintain optimal lung health through education, prevention, awareness and direct services; and
WHEREAS, throughout its rich history, Breathe Pennsylvania has been a leader in providing people with the tools and knowledge to become advocates for their own lung health by continually expanding programs and services to educate the community on chronic lung diseases including tuberculosis, COPD and asthma. Breathe Pennsylvania also provides smoking cessation services and resources for individuals and businesses alike; and
WHEREAS, the coronavirus pandemic has highlighted the important role that lung health professionals play in managing both acute and chronic conditions; and
WHEREAS, for the first time this year, Breathe Pennsylvania will honor individuals who work with and provide exemplary care to individuals with respiratory disease; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Joseph Gordon was named a 2021 Lung Health Champion by Breathe Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gordon, a Respiratory Therapist at Allegheny Health Network was nominated for this award by a physician colleague; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gordon has been a respiratory therapist at AGH for decades. In 2015, he was recruited to be the lead navigator for a novel program for AHN: COPD care transformation with the program's focal point with bringing care to a COPD patient who was admitted for an acute exacerbation. Over the years, Mr. Gordon has taken on the role of the liaison for all things respiratory related; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gordon’s nominator noted that he is the heart and soul of the program and one of the main reasons for the growing success of the COPD program;
