Proclamation recognizing Dan Gimiliano for his service to our county and upon the momentous occasion of his 98th birthday.

WHEREAS, Dan Gimiliano was born on July 22, 1923 in Clairton, Pennsylvania and graduated from Clairton High School in 1941; and
WHEREAS, after graduating high school, Dan was drafted into the United States Army, where from September 1941 to May 1945, Dan actively served in the U.S. Army Field Artillery, 26th Infantry Division; and
WHEREAS, during his service in World War II, Dan was stationed in six countries: Germany, Luxembourg, Austria, France, Belgium and Czechoslovakia, and he received four battle stars for his years of service; and
WHEREAS, one of the highest honors Dan received for his service was a bronze star as a Third Army ammunition driver at the Battle of the Bulge under the command of General George Patton; and
WHEREAS, for most of his adult life, Dan resided in Castle Shannon until five years ago when he moved to Bethel Park; and
WHEREAS, for over 20 years, Dan worked for Duquesne Slag as an engineer. He was responsible for designing and maintaining the machinery; and
WHEREAS, Dan has been married twice, marrying his second wife Betty, after his first wife, Evelyn, sadly passed in 1972 at the age of 42. Betty passed in 2002; and
WHEREAS, Dan continues to be an active member of the American Legion Post 0490 in Castle Shannon and the Veterans Breakfast Club (VBC);
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Allegheny County Council At- Large Sam DeMarco, do hereby honor and recognize Dan Gimiliano for his service to our county and his longevity, and we wish him all the best as he celebrates his 98th birthday.
