WHEREAS, since 1944, American Veterans (AMVETS) has been a staunch advocate for veterans and their families; and

WHEREAS, AMVETS, formerly known as American Veterans of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam was originally chartered by Congress to assist veterans in all aspects of their lives, from fighting for full benefits to finding decent jobs; and

WHEREAS, in 2021, the AMVETS Post No. 60 will celebrate their 75th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, on February 6, 1946, the AMVETS Post No. 60 was chartered and over the years it has grown its position as a pillar of the community; and

WHEREAS, AMVETS Post No. 60 is comprised of 135 veteran members, 65 lady auxiliary members, and countless Sons of AMVETS members; and

WHEREAS, AMVETS Post No. 60 is dedicated to serving the community and showing respect to veterans in all stages of life; and

WHEREAS, every Memorial Day, AMVETS Post No. 60 members visit five monuments and three cemeteries across Allegheny County to honor deceased veterans by placing flags on their gravesite; and

WHEREAS, AMVETS Post No. 60 plays a vital role in many local events such as, collecting essential goods for those in need, sponsoring local sports teams, and working with local funeral directors to ensure that all deceased veterans receive military funeral honors at no cost; and

WHEREAS, in January 2014, the AMVETS Post No. 60 had a bridge in North Braddock named after them. The bridge was commemorated as the North Braddock AMVETS Post No. 60; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Allegheny County Council Member At-Large, Sam DeMarco do hereby congratulate the AMVETS Post No. 60 upon celebrating their 75th anniversary, and I thank them for their years of dedicated service to the community and enhancing the quality of life for the residents of Allegheny County.
