Whereas, on May 20, 2020, the Mayor of the City of Pittsburgh signed Resolution 2020-0326 into law;

Whereas, the provisions of 2020-0326 (attached hereto) establish the City of Pittsburgh’s COVID-19 Equity Task Force; and

Whereas, pursuant to the terms of 2020-0326, the City’s task force is expressly charged with the duty “…to integrate health and social equity into the Covid-19 response and its aftermath here in the city of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County”; and

Whereas, in furtherance of this task, “[t]he Greater Pittsburgh Covid-19 Racial Equity Task Force shall be a Joint Task Force composed of members from the Pittsburgh Black Elected Officials, the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Public Health Officials, University representatives, Covid-19 Equity Working Group and community representatives, all with specific expertise on African Americans and/or African American communities”; and

Whereas, it is the judgment of Council that the Greater Pittsburgh Covid-19 Racial Equity Task Force will serve a valuable function in addressing the public health and well-being, reducing inequalities, and promoting sustainable communities, peace, justice and strong institutions and partnership; and

Whereas, it is further the judgment of Council that its most foundational duty is to provide for the health, safety and well-being of the County’s residents, and that this purpose will be advanced by participating in the City’s vision for the Greater Pittsburgh Covid-19 Racial Equity Task Force; and

Whereas, the County’s participation is in keeping with the goals and priorities elucidated in Bill No. 11490-20, declaring racism as a public health hazard, and passed by Council on May 5, 2020;


The Council of the County of Allegheny therefore hereby moves as follows:
