Motion of the Council of Allegheny County authorizing the publication of an advertisement seeking participants in the Juvenile Justice Study Group process.

WHEREAS, on March 21, 2023, Allegheny County Council passed Bill No. 12610-23, a motion authorizing creation of a Juvenile Justice Study Group to evaluate the current needs of the County’s juvenile justice system, including potential re-uses of or replacements for the former Shuman Center;
WHEREAS, the provisions of 12610-23 require, inter alia, that the Study Group “…receive information and potential recommendations from entities having experience relevant to juvenile detention, including but not limited to entities with expertise in primary and secondary education, juvenile detention center operations, juvenile addiction counselling and recovery, juvenile mental health needs, juvenile medical needs, and job training.”;
WHEREAS, in an effort to increase transparency and receive input from a variety of different perspectives, it is the desire of Council to place an advertisement requesting that parties interested in providing information to the Study Group make themselves known to Council;
The Council of the County of Allegheny therefore hereby moves as follows:,
Council hereby authorizes the publication, no later than June 16, 2023, of the attached advertisement seeking participants in the Juvenile Justice Study Group process.
