Subject: Re: Motion of Allegheny County Council * Bill No. 2812-06

Dear Mr. Mascio:

Thank you for forwarding to me a copy of the motion adopted by the Allegheny County Council, in which the Council expressed its intention to limit the County’s contribution to the North Shore Connector project and its desire to see that Senate Resolution 337 is adopted.  I appreciate the Council’s interest in this project, and I understand the need to limit the potential liability of the County for this ambitious project.

As you are likely aware, the Senate has adopted Senate Resolution 337, and that resolution has moved to the House, where it is currently awaiting final consideration by the full House.  I am a co-sponsor of this resolution, because I believe it is important to limit the potential state contribution and liability for this project as well.  While I support the connector project, and I believe that it will benefit the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County and the entire region when it is completed, we must limit the extent to which our Commonwealth could be financially responsible for this project.  I am pleased that the Senate has adopted this resolution, and I hope that the House will soon act on it.

Again, thank you for contacting me about this matter.  Please feel free to contact me if I can assist you in any way.

Sincerely yours,

Senator Jay Costa, Jr.
