Whereas, the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office has been offered, and wishes to accept, the donation of a bi-fuel vehicle, and

Whereas, it is an initiative of the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office to move to a more fuel-efficient vehicle fleet with cleaner alternative fuel and improved operational efficiency and reduced environmental impact, and

Whereas, the advantages of natural gas as a transportation fuel include its domestic availability, widespread distribution infrastructure, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional gasoline and diesel fuels, and

Whereas, natural gas vehicles are similar to gasoline or diesel vehicles with regard to power, acceleration, and cruising speed, and

Whereas, PNG, with its donation of said vehicle, is dedicated to assisting the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office take advantage of all the benefits natural gas has to offer, and

Whereas, the assignment of the bi-fuel vehicle will be at the discretion of the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, and

Whereas, the ongoing cost of the alternative fuel (natural gas) will be the responsibility of the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office through its annual Operating Budget, unless Allegheny County adopts natural gas as a fuel option throughout the County vehicle fleet, and

Whereas, the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office recommends acceptance of said bi-fuel vehicle, and

Whereas, Article IV, Section 2.j. of the Home Rule Charter of Allegheny County vests the County Council with the power and duty by ordinance to accept grants, gifts or donation...
